Danielle Epperson. You may have noticed that companies such as Autodesk are becoming more eco-friendly by having their customers download their purchased software instead of shipping. I will be discussing the two options that Autodesk provides to their customers: the Autodesk Subscription Center and the Autodesk Virtual Agent.
If you are on a subscription and are the software coordinator for your company, you will have the option to download the software yourself or assign a user to download the software through the Autodesk Subscription Center. To assign a user to download, the software coordinator will need to go to the Admin controls section of the Subscription Center. Subscription Center downloads are pretty straightforward. All you will need to do is select the “Downloads” icon on the left side of the browser or select the yellow “Get Your Upgrade” icon on the center of the page to go to the screen that has the list of software that you have purchased.
From there, you can use the scroll button on the right side of the page to locate the product and its version that you need to download. This section will only list the software that you own, unlike the screenshot below.
Once you have selected the version that you need to download, the subscription site gives you the option to download either the 32 Bit or 64 Bit version. Separating this out has made the download time much faster for the software coordinators. See image below. Also, there is a selection in the Subscription Center that has additional software releases, extensions, service packs, etc. I recommend that all software coordinators that a look at this site to see what they can install to help their users.
I have listed a few of the enhancements that are currently available to download through the subscription site. The second option to download software is through Autodesk Virtual Agent. From my experience with working with our customers during tech support, this is the best option to download software. You can only download software form here with the Browser Download method. The Virtual Agent has most of the software that Autodesk provides and anyone can download and install it from this site.
Also, this is the place to go to download software that you have wondered about and wanted to test it out before you make the purchase. Just download the software and install it as a 30 day trial.
To find the software that you need to download, select the “download links” link. It will give you a categorized list of Autodesk software. Selecting the software that you want to download will give the list of flavors of the software and then you will need to select the version. When using the Virtual Agent links, you will need to download all parts of the download to the same folder location. Once all of the parts have finished downloading, open up the “Part 1” folder and run the executable file to start the installation.
The installation will automatically recognize the other parts in the folder and will automatically read the other files in the background to install your software. You will need to be aware that this option is less efficient and less reliable, especially when downloading large files.
Browsers can’t take advantage of the superior compression delivered with the Autodesk Download Manager. Your install files can be corrupted due to interruptions in the connection, so make sure that you have a solid internet connection for this option. I don’t recommend using this method over wifi. If you are still unsure on what option to use, you can select the ” Help Me Decide ” option and it will give you further explanation on each of the download options.
